Alfred Branchini Squadron #17 along with Alfred Branchini Unit #17 of Iron River passed out dictionaries to every 3rd grader in Forrest Park schools the first week of November. They worked with the Dictionary Project which is a national program The American Legion is associated with. To many of these children this is the first book they will own and can be used for many years.

Every year on Memorial Day, there are three community Memorial Day ceremonies.  At 9:00 AM a parade through town and a service with a speaker at the Loudonville Cemetery. (This is where this picture was taken.  All members are wearing a squadron shirt and their cover, including an 11 year old.)  There were 12 members representing the SAL.

Loudon Squadron 257 voted on 11/9/14 to donate $250 to the Loudonville High School Academic Boosters.  This money is used to scholastically to assist the students and reward them. Loudon Squadron 257 voted 3/8/15 to donate $250 as part of the American Legion Family (American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, American Legion Riders, SAL agreed to donate $250 each.) for a pavilion at the Ashland County Fairgrounds as a memorial to Cheyenne Spidel.

Just a note, all 6 delegates and 3 alternates were able to attend June 2015 Buckeye Boys State.

For Christmas 2014, 18 veterans received a gift of their choice.  The gifts consisted of a bed comforter set, tennis shoes,house slippers, winter boots, winter coat, underwear, Marine ball caps, pants and earphones.  This is the Loudonville Bicentennial Parade.  Walking behind the American Legion 257 and VFW 8586 Color Guard were 7 SAL Squadron Members wearing their squadron shirts and covers.  Driving the tractor was SAL member Ralph Adams wearing his shirt and cover.  Ralph restored this old wagon and pulled it in the parade.  In the wagon are two American Legion 257 members, two A.L. Auxiliary members and two SAL 257 members.  Dakota Sutterlin, an 11 year old member for 11 years, is waving to the people.

Delivery was made by Detachment Commander  Carvin Chapman, PDC Pat Pustay, chauffeur Department Honorary Jr President Sabrina Jo Townes,  PDC Skipper Townes.  Receiving on be have of Wilwin was Board member John Kinzinger. The Golf Cart  was a donation to Wilwin by The Sons of The American Legion, Detachment  of Michigan.

Citation for Heroism for       Phillip Daniels, SAL Member     Padgett-Webb Squadron 17 Dublin, GA   Phillip Daniels, who turned 18 years old on June 7, 2016, is a member of Padgett-Webb Squadron 17 Sons of The American Legion.  He and his friend, Tyler Powell, distinguished themselves through extraordinary heroism by saving the life of a friend and neighbor, 57 year old Gene Kosten from his burning house.   Kosten is a US Army Veteran and a member of the Georgia Army National Guard. Daniels is the son of Angela Daniels.  She is a US Army Veteran and Dual Member of Padgett-Webb Post 17 American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.

The Chelsea American Legion Post 31 in conjunction with the Michigan Kayak Assoc. held its 6th annual Hero's On The Water event on June 11th. 16 Veterans from the Ann Arbor VA Health center came out for a day of fishing with the kayaks. Those who didn't kayak got a tour of the lake by pontoon boat generously donated by a neighbor. Everyone was treated to grilled hamburgers and hotdogs along with deep fried blue gill and venison roast. The weather was perfect for a day on Cavanaugh Lake.
