Memorial underway to honor resident veterans from Revolutionary War to present

A group of veterans appointed by the four townships in the Northwestern Lehigh School District in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, is midway through construction and fundraising to build a Veterans Memorial, located in the beautiful Ontelaunee Park in Lynn Township.
Our target for completion and dedication is Memorial Day 2022. The memorial will honor the service of all residents who served in America’s wars from the Revolutionary War to the present, with provision to add veterans’ names into the future. The memorial was designed by-veterans-for-veterans, featuring military symbolism throughout the site and patriotic quotes in historic context for the war eras and periods of service. The memorial provides a resource for our school children and anyone interested in learning about the contributions of area veterans throughout our nation’s history. It provides both a solemn, physical place to visit and an electronic database to research individual service experiences. Our website describes the memorial in more detail at https://nwlehighvetsmemorial.org and on Facebook at NWL Veterans Memorial.
Up to 3,000 veterans' names will be engraved on the granite panels. To date there are 2,456 names in our database that will be accessible for research through our website. The information includes their branch of service, unit, rank and experiences while they served.
To date, we have received just over half of the budgeted cost of $400,000. All of the funding for design and construction of the memorial will come from individual private donors, local businesses, corporations, banks and civic/veteran organizations. Learn more at https://nwlehighvetsmemorial.org.
