Bronze Star

My father never talked about his service in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe (France and Germany). After he passed away I found his military records and found out that he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism for running across 400 yards of open terrain under enemy fire to secure ammunition for his machine gun emplacement, preventing his position from being overrun and saving himself and his squad. There are many campaign ribbons and other decorations which I have displayed in my living room along with his flag presented to my mother at his funeral.
