Wyoming County Joint Veterans Council honor guard

The Joint Veterans Council (JVC) of Wyoming County, N.Y., brings together all the military organizations from across the county to support our veterans, share information, and work on veteran and community projects. We also have the JVC's honor guard that is made up of various American Legion and VFW posts in the county and perform military honors for local veterans' funerals. In addition, we perform honors every Wednesday and fourth Friday of the month at the New Western NY National Cemetery as the Western NY National Cemetery honor guard.
Members come from Arcade's- Hugh Lynch Post#737/VFW #374, Attica's -Harder-O'Donnell Post /Squadron #734, Castile's- Wallace & Jeffers Post#753, Perry's- McKelton Post#350, Strykersville's- Six Star Post#637 and Warsaw's- Walter Klein Post#532 to make up this dedicated team. The Western NY National Cemetery opened on Dec. 18, 2020, and in the one-year period we performed military honors for 95 veterans at the national cemetery along with 39 local veterans' funerals. The counties of Genesee, Orleans and Erie cover down on the other weekdays and we rotate Fridays until we can get another county or honor guard to help out at the cemetery. This all translates into thousands of miles driven and hours donated by a great group of people who feel it's their honor to do so.
