Celebrations for California veterans with special ceremonies

Over 100 veterans were celebrated in several cities in Northern California on Veterans Day this year.
The veterans were recognized by AccentCare team members in communities near Sacramento and San Jose in ceremonies of recognition, pinnings, memorials and more. Privileged to partner with the “We Honor Veterans” program, AccentCare trains staff and volunteers on how to identify and acknowledge all veterans in their communities, regardless of whether they are on their service.

At one ceremony, the beautiful California weather served as a backdrop for the event at the Villas of Saratoga and the Courtyard Care Center. Volunteer Services and Outreach Coordinator Nili Helman-Caspi said, “The events were very successful, and a lot of pictures were taken by their staff members.”

Veterans were also honored at these communities:
Manor Care Health Services, Sunnyvale
Courtyard Care Center, San Jose
Sonnet Hill Senior Living, San Jose
Vasona Creek Healthcare Center, Los Gatos
Villa Siena Senior Living Community, Mountain View
Blended Family Care Home, Cupertino
American River Care Skilled nursing facility
Walnut House Assisted Living
Brookdale of Folsom

Attendees at the San Jose ceremonies watched an interactive video presentation about famous veterans, including U.S. presidents and celebrity veterans, and sang patriotic songs. Renditions of the military songs were played by Josephine Huynh, AccentCare music therapist. Music therapy intern Svetlana Chashchina played "America the Beautiful" on the piano. At Sonnet Hill, all the residents wanted to stand up during the military ceremony and playing of the national anthem as a testament to their dedication to our country.

While recognizing veterans from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, the post-acute health-care provider had a staff member who is a veteran as well. Spiritual Care Coordinator/Chaplain Stewart Hill is an Air Force veteran who performed the posting of the flag ceremony. Other San Jose team members helping in the events were Pedro Cortez, Paula Scoglio, Karen Nolan and Elvira Ramirez. In Sacramento, Philip Wright, Amber Williams, Christian Tudino, Brian Broadway, Francesca Zawaydeh, Natasha Bradford and Elisabeth Chisholm.

AccentCare staff was proud to create beautiful memories for veterans in all nine facilities.
