Post 828 commander appointed District 2 Veterans Affairs representative

SAN ANTONIO – (Aug. 18, 2022) – Burrell Parmer, commander of Fred Brock American Legion Post 828, was sworn in as the District 2 representative to serve on the City of San Antonio’s Commission on Veterans Affairs at City Hall.

The Commission on Veterans Affairs, chartered on April 12, 2001, is an 11-member board representing the mayor and 10 city council districts. All members are veterans and may serve no more than three (3) two-year terms.

The commission's mission is to serve the city council in an advisory capacity on legislative issues affecting the city's military population, both active and retired. It serves as the community's liaison and advocate for veterans affairs; advises the city council on issues affecting San Antonio veterans and their families; and makes recommendations for improving services.

Additionally, the commission is the lead over activities associated with the city’s role as an Elizabeth Dole Foundation Hidden Heroes City.

Parmer, the public affairs officer of Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio and a retired U.S. Marine, has consistently served the Eastside Community for more than a decade.

In addition to being a paid up for life (PUFL) member of The American Legion, Parmer is a gold life member of the San Antonio Branch of the NAACP, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 76, and life member of Disabled American Veterans. He is also president of the Claude W. Black Center Advisory Board, treasurer of World LOLEI, Inc., and co-founder of the Noble Gentlemen of San Antonio.

Additionally, he is a past master of San Antonio Lodge No. 1 (Prince Hall Masons), past potentate of Moussa Temple No. 106 (Prince Hall Shriners), and the acting editor of Pyramid Magazine, the official publication of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine, Inc. (A.E.A.O.N.M.S.).

On Aug. 17, he attended the 129th Annual Session of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S. in St. Louis, where he was inducted into the Legion of Honor and exalted as an honorary past imperial potentate.
