Young Legion member is Navy's Shiphandler of the Year

27 year-old Mitch is a 9-year member of Laurel, Md., American Legion Post 60. Post Commander Lee Luby and the post threw a welcome-home party for him June 8. He is well-known there.
He will soon be driving cross country with wife Nikki to duty at Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., to study space systems engineering.
He's a 2014 Naval Academy graduate with a degree in general engineering. At Navy he spent some time on the football and track teams. In high school he was SGA President, Student Athlete of the Year and earned 16 varsity letters. While an ensign he was briefly a professional bull rider (https://probullstats.com/rider/Mitch+Kempisty). He was the cover story for the magazine Humps N Horns in March 2015.
