Gladstone (Mich.) Sons squadron holds membership initiation

August Mattson Sons of the American Legion Squadron 71 held an initiation ceremony at the Gladstone post on Dec. 9. There were three Sons accepted for membership into the squadron, with 15 total new members so far this year.

The Michigan SAL is experiencing a resurgence in membership across the state and here in the U.P.

SAL membership includes males of all ages whose fathers or grandfathers severed and were honorably discharged from the U.S. military. Although the Sons has its own membership, the organization is not a separate entity. Rather, the SAL is a program of The American Legion. Many Legionnaires hold dual membership in the SAL.
Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires.
Squadron 71 Membership Chairman and 5th Zone Commander John Pickard reminds us, as we celebrate the holiday season with our loved ones, to please remember to say a prayer for those brave men and women who continue to fight to preserve our freedom that we hold dear. Lift up our veteran heroes with love and honor. Support our military families with words of encouragement and unity. And do something extra for your community and those who are suffering.
