Post 178 provides holiday cheer

Frisco’s American Legion Post 178 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 178 provided Christmas gifts and cookies to the men and women at the Texas State Veteran’s Home in Bonham, Texas.

The Legion and Auxiliary members were assisted by generous donations from students at Oak Point Elementary in Little Elm, which was organized by Jill Harrer, the special education teacher to kindergarten and 4th grade students. The children contributed 17 boxes of items that included food, lap blankets, personal hygiene items, games, puzzles and candy. The students also wrote letters to the folks residing in the Bonham facility.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, Post 178 and its members donated over $2,400 to assist in purchasing items such as a basketball goal, tether ball, miniature golf set-up, and a projector with an outside screen to show movies. Staff members at the Bonham home were also remembered with homemade cookies from Scott and Deborah Dillingham.

The donations were delivered on Dec. 11 by veteran members Tim Schmidt and Marty Martel. Christmas was made a little brighter for these veterans.
