Anderson American Legion Post 318 celebrated American Legion Day with the 2nd annual signing of a community covenant. The community covenant is a document that provides for the American Legion’s “commitment to community service” and for community organizations, businesses and government leaders to “commit to supporting our nation’s veterans and military personnel and their families”.

American Legion Day, September 16th, is selected for executing this covenant as it coincides with the date the American Legion organization was formed in 1919. The community covenant embodies the principles and purpose of the American Legion and presents any excellent opportunity to educate the community’s organizations, businesses and local government with what services the Legion provides through it many veterans, school and community programs. Anderson Post 318’s first community covenant in 2010 was between the American Legion, Post 318 and the Anderson Township government. Anderson Post 318 has served the Anderson Township community since it’s chartering on May 9, 1939.

The recently executed 2nd community covenant has been broadened to include numerous other entities. Those local community entities signing the 2011 community covenant are: Anderson Township Fire Department; Anderson Township Park District; Anderson Senior Center; Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office District 5; Forest Hills School District; PNC Bank; Mercy Health; Superior Home Care / New England Club; Mt. Washington Care Center; Kroger (Anderson Towne Center); and Ohio State Representative Peter Stautberg. Signing the covenant on behalf of the American Legion is Ohio Commander Robert Klostermeier and Anderson Post 318 Commander Don Bishop.

This year’s American Legion Day community covenant signing was coordinated by Post 318 Commander Don Bishop and Joe Baker who chairs the Post 318 Community Support Committee.
