Post 654

I have been a member of American Legion Post 654 for 58 years and am a veteran of the Korean War era. My membership was sponsored by two World War II veterans who had been members of our post for many years. I joined the Army in 1951 and served until 1953. Several members of my family are former and current members of military service.
Over the years I remained active with the Legion post, until my health failed due to cancer. Our post has always been active in the community. The key to our post’s success is excellent leadership and dedicated members.
One important duty of all Legion members is to fly the American flag every day in their front yard. I have served my post as commander, chaplain and have assisted at military funerals, honor guard and Memorial Day services. Our post does a great job giving school scholarships also.
A great honor as a veteran was to take an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in 2016. It was a chance to spend the day with fellow veterans from many states and say thanks to our great nation for all our privileges. In closing, I encourage all military veterans to be a part of their local American Legion post. Thank you.
