American Legion 100th Anniversary Honorary Committee member Diane Carlson Evans was Master of Ceremonies for the Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony at the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The 2018 ceremony commemorated the 25th Anniversary of The Vietnam Women's Memorial. Carlson Evans, a Vietnam combat nurse and American Legion member, began her initiative to build the Women's Memorial in the early 1980s, when she introduced a resolution at her local American Legion post in River Falls, Wisc. Throughout the process, the Department of Wisconsin, and then National American Legion continued the support of her mission. In February 2018, Carlson Evans received The American Legion Patriot Award for her achievements on behalf of women veterans.
