Legion-supported job fairs nationwide help veterans find careers

From the national level down to the post level, The American Legion continues to strive to help veterans, military spouses and transitioning servicemembers find careers through job fairs and hiring events.

Here are a few recent successful events.

National event with MilitaryHire

On April 23, the Legion and MilitaryHire cohosted a virtual hiring fair for servicemembers, veterans and military spouses.

Preliminary data provided by MilitaryHire showed that 34 employers and 257 candidates attended the event, with 603 chats taking place between candidates and recruiters and/or veterans service officers. More than 100 candidates attended the entire nearly five-hour event.

New Mexico Heroes Hiring Heroes

On April 24, Post 13 in Albuquerque, N.M., hosted its ninth annual Heroes Hiring Heroes employment event. Past National Vice Commander Paul Espinoza said the event drew 45 employers, each with at least 15 job openings, and 13 community resources.

New Jersey Casino Career Fair

For the sixth year, the Department of New Jersey joined with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission for a career fair to fill job openings at Atlantic City’s nine casinos.

This year’s event on April 25 drew 270 job seekers, among the highest turnouts for department job fairs since 2011, according to the department’s Employment, Homeless & Education Committee’s Bob Looby.
