Wilbur R. Pope, 84, of Big Spring, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, in a local hospital. Funeral services held Oct. 15 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Rick Wilson officiating. Interment at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring.

Wilbur was born July 17, 1930 in Novice, Texas, and married Doris Newton May 22, 1952, in Big Spring.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952, Damage Controlman, Korean War, and retired from the Cosden Oil and Chemical plant as a lab technician. He loved camping, fishing, raising tomatoes and peppers, and woodworking.

Wilbur is survived by his wife, Doris Pope of Big Spring; one daughter, Nancy Culpepper and husband Joe Ray of Rainbow; two sons, Roger G. Pope of Novice and Allen W. Pope of Big Spring; one brother, David Pope and wife Margie of Big Spring; five grandchildren:Sandra Robertson, Jonathan Culpepper, Remington “Bubba” Love, Nancy Rose Pope and Richard Randall Pope; and one great-grandson, Pierce Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Albert and Rose (Bates) Pope; one son, Randall Dean Pope; one brother, James Lewin Pope, and two sisters, Ruby Greenhill and Madie Little.
