Irene A. Meyer Cobean Schroeder

Irene Annette Meyer Cobean Schroeder, 92, passed away on Oct. 25, 2015. She was born on March 14, 1923, in Glen Haven, Wis. Irene joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945 and was stationed in New York City, where her duty was to spot ships in the harbor and at sea because she had acute night vision. She was also stationed in Washington, D.C., where she served as a mess supervisor. She was honorably discharged in May 1945. In September 2012 she was privileged to go on the Freedom Honor Flight from Lacrosse, Wis., and be honored at the Women In Service to America Memorial at Arlington, Va. She was a member of Temperly-Duncan American Legion Post 526 of Hazel Green, Wis.
