The alarming rate of unemployment among members of the National Guard and how to reduce it is the topic of discussion at a House Veterans Affairs subcommittee hearing today. Legion Legislative staff are auditing the session.
Staff members from The American Legion’s Economic Division are participating in a New York City veterans job fair today. It is one of series of 100 career fairs being staged by VA and partners, including the Legion, this year. This one is at the VA Regional Office, 245 West Houston St. from, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Job seekers are encouraged to arrive dressed in business attire, have a supply of résumés with them, and be ready to be interviewed.
Legion Legislative staff are attending a House Veterans Affairs Committee hearing concerning VA’s pharmaceutical purchasing practices. In announcing the hearing last week, committee Rep. Jeff Miller said, “In the past few months, questions have been raised ... allegations have been made regarding off-contract purchases, safety, and contracting issues. The committee plans to investigate this matter fully.”
"Get Out the Vote 2012" guidebooks are being shipped to department headquarters for further distribution to posts in support of voting efforts during this election year. Guidebooks are also being sent to department leadership and members of the National Americanism Commission and Americanism Council.
