Welcome Home Soldier Monument

Welcome Home Soldier Monument

The Welcome Home Soldier Monument is located in America's heartland. It honors all veterans and servicemembers, living and deceased, from all across our nation. It is built on eight acres of land along U.S. Highway 34 just west of Albia, Iowa. It memorializes the active-duty peacetime and wartime honorably discharged veterans in the past, present and future. There are monuments for Iwo Jima, Vietnam, the Korean War, the Civil War, and coming this year a monument to the women who have served. There are 100 U.S. flags flying on Humble Hero Hill, an amphitheater with 50 state flags, and POW Plaza with a 6x10 U.S. flag, Iowa flag and POW flag. The Civil War bugler, flanked by the flags of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard, sounds reveille and taps. A lighted trail with benches for reflection winds through the monument and is wheelchair-accessible.
