The American Legion has issued commemorative decanters in conjunction with each of its national conventions from 1971 to 1994. The first decanter was created in 1969 in honor of the Legion's 50th Anniversary celebration. This was so popular that a second was created for the 1971 national convention. Additional decanters continued to be produced with themes focused on the host city for each convention until the 1994 national convention and the Legion's 75th Anniversary celebration. The 1990 convention was held in Indianapolis, and the decanter was designed as a replica of the National Headquarters building.
