'Lucky 7' pin incentive program

Featured in National Commander
'Lucky 7' pin incentive program

During the 2010-2011 membership year, National Commander Jimmie Foster will award his National Commander pin to any Legion family member who signs up at least two new members and renews five current members into The American Legion.

A "New Member" is defined as any eligible person joining for the 2011 membership year who was not a member of The American Legion during the 2010 membership year.

National Commander Foster's goal is to recognize those in the Legion family who actively recruit new members into the world's largest veterans' service organization for the 2011 membership year. To maintain the integrity of the National Commander's pin incentive program, only one will be awarded per individual.

The certification form for this program may be submitted at any time after September 2, 2010. Upon receipt, national membership staff will confirm the names and mail the pin directly to the Legionnaire. National Commander Jimmie Foster's I am part of the "Lucky 7" pin incentive program will end on June 30, 2011 - or when supplies are exhausted.

Thank you,

Jimmie FosterNational Commander 2010-2011The American Legion

Seems like the Adjutant is doing your job if you're the membership chairman. I am a first year adjutant and our membership chairman does all the membership work. The only thing that I do as the adjutant is to approve the applications and supporting information after he has done everything else. He gets the credit for all the membership effort because he's the one that does it. Seems to me that's the way it's supposed to be done..

I think all members of a Department Post should have to transfer to a regular Post after one(1) year so thier eligibility can be verified

Why if we are the biggest organization do we need to charge what we do . Is there not strength in numbers . the strength comes form the members but if its so expensive to join who wants it ? Yes we are not as expensive as some but just what do we get ?? You give an accidental death insurance but how many die from it ? A smaller police would be better if it covered by any way death .If only accidental is you die of natural causes you get nothing and you give up your name which you sell to others and we get junk mail ,great benefit there ! If we got more of a discount from the card at business we would have something there ,the simple 10% is from too many other organizations and even then if you could use more than one it would be better . Being retired military I get no additional cut from any thing even if a member . If you could use more than one that's a benefit .

Here we go again...Another "RIGGED" Pin. You have to get two NEW MEMBERS but 5 RENEWALS...Good luck. Most of the "OLD TIMERS" who are Adjutants use their positions to keep people who want to work from getting any recognition...They won't give out Phone Tree Lists so members can call or better yet, go by and get the other members renewals...I have 5 NEW MEMBERS for this year already, yet I have not gotten one renewal, why, because the Post Adjutant keeps all of the information to himself and if any NEW MEMBERS APPLICATIONS come in w/o expressly giving the recruiters name, he adds it to HIS LIST of recruits...Bah!!HUMBUG!!! Or worse, gives it to someone who holds a higher position in the Post, just because they hold that position, irregardless if they have done any ACTIVE RECRUITING WORK.

TrueBlueAmerican, Sounds to me like you need to make the move to our Post! I am a first year Adjutant and proud to say that we just hit 100% the last week of 2010. This is the first time we've achieved this in YEARS! But there is a LOT of work to be done still - we are looking for Members who would help to develop a Gulf (X & Y Generation) Recruiting Effort. And we rely on our active members to achieve our Post goals. Shame your Adjutant is that way. Keep your head up and make a change - Either go for the Adjutant's position in the upcoming elections or consider transferring to OUR Post! :^) In Faith, Michael

The Lucky 7 is a good incentive but I have to agree with those who are commenting about the price of PUFLs. The high price has killed one of our best retention programs. Get the price back down where the ordinary person can afford it.

Why are Post One dues lower than our Post.Department should be encouraging the individuals to join a post in there area. There should be one sent price except for pufl or life members. If an individual chooses to stay in Post one a pop up survey should be sent outand find out why so we can correct any problems. I beleive Post One member should be on the rooster of the post in their area inorder to find out what the post is doing and how they can help. It hurts the morale, when try to recruit then discovers that many members are in Post One. Some of their answer are it cheaper and I don't need to go to the meeting.Or I support you by joining Post One. (Only.) we can go either Way: 1. We can have a set price for both Post One and the other Post Possibility vot on this. 2. post One dues be higher and encourage them to join apost and get involved. either one but, all members should be on the rooster of a postUnite in numbers is Strength.

Dear Sirs,or Mam. On my block only one household lives two officers. Yes a Man, and a women, both in the U.S. navy. Other than that no one is a veteran. Viet-nam was one of the last draft related war. The type of people I live around did'nt go to Nam. They protested the war and the like, or was too young to go. It's a lonely world out here! Thanks for your time.

1. National needs to pass down post 110 info. 2. lower the price of a PUFL. Most blue caps cant afford it. and don't get me started on the so called payment plan. 3.Get some real benefits for being a member. No eye care provider i contacted has even heard of the co. that handles the so called eye care plan let alone honor it. and yes i have talked to the biggies sear jc penny Costco etc. Also my AAA card has better hotel and car rental rates than the legion dose

This incentive is awesome and will get many off their butts. This is what we need, a legion that will work for its family. Once it is explained as how to "renew" a comrade with a valid proof of renewal, this will be a great method to bring us together as a working body. May our Creator continue to be with all who said, "I do" when inducted in the past and the future. For God and Country...... Thank you Commander Foster of Alaska, USA Bill Duff

I'm curious how a Legionnaire gains designation as having "renewed" current members or "signed up" new members? Is it by physically handing in the membership forms and checks for these folks. Is there an annotation to be made on the form...Renewed or Signed by...? Can it be done for online sign-ups and renewals? Looking forward to the implementing instruction.
