Smithfield, Virginia American Legion Post 49 partnered with local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8545 and the Cypress Creek Community Association on Veterans Day to recognize two World War II veterans living there. Elmer Mack, a 102-year-old post member and an Army veteran of the Normandy invasion and 105-year-old John Holland, an Army Air Corps veteran. Legion Post 49 Commander Jerry Starling is shown presenting an American flag to John Holland and then rendering him honors. A flag was also presented to Elmer Mack by the VFW.
