Legion to take part in employment roundtable

American Legion Past National Commander William Detweiler will meet with Kathleen Martinez, the assistant secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy, in New Orleans on Thursday to discuss veterans unemployment, workforce development and the American Jobs Act.

Several either unemployed veterans or veterans participating in veteran workforce programs have been invited to attend the meeting, which will take place at the National World War II Museum. The meeting will include a presentation by Martinez, as well as a question-and-answer session.

"This visit will give the assistant secretary the opportunity to hear and discuss the frustrations and concerns of our veterans in the New Orleans area in finding employment," Detweiler said. "It is important that The American Legion takes every opportunity to discuss veterans employment issues with our government representatives. This roundtable discussion will give us an opportunity to learn more about the programs available and those that are planned by the administration to put our veterans to work."
