Bringing together the American Legion Family since 1919

The American Legion National Convention stands as the organization's largest annual gathering, bringing together approximately 9,000 members from The American Legion Family. National convention delegates meet each year to approve changes to the Legion’s constitution and bylaws, pass programs that determine the course of the Legion, set membership dues for the upcoming year, and elect a national commander and five national vice commanders to serve until the next convention.

About National Convention

100 Years of National Conventions

This Emil A. Blackmore Museum digital exhibit showcases the evolution of national convention commemorative memorabilia over a 100-year timespan through images of badges, convention officials, delegates and distinguished guests wearing them, and national convention program covers. Like the badges, the colorful program covers paid homage to The American Legion’s dedication to supporting soldiers and veterans, honoring fallen soldiers, educating the youth and loyally serving the nation.
