David Gordon Coward

Dave was born March 2,1936, to Gordon and Helen Coward in Portland, Ore. He died June 2, 2015, in Hillsboro, Ore. As a boy of 7 he made his first climb on Mt. Hood in Oregon, then six more thereafter. He attended Fulton Park Grade School and Lincoln High School where he enjoyed playing basketball and football, graduating in 1954. Upon graduating he enlisted in the U.S.Army serving two years at Fort Ord, Calif., and Stuttgart, Germany. He traveled several countries, enjoying skiing the Alps and received special permission to travel to East Berlin, where it was very restrictive. He did manage to take a few photos before leaving. Upon his return to the States, Dave and Marcia Ewing were
married Aug. 17,1956. Dave worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in 1991, and in retirement worked at the Orenco Woods Golf Course, which he enjoyed as golf was his favorite pastime. He was a lifetime member of the Hillsboro Oregon Elks Organization.
Dave is survived by his wife Marcia; sons, Steven (Gwen), Gregory (Regina), and daughter Susan (Kent); seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
