Jerome Cummings

Jerome "Jerry" Cummings, 94, passed away peacefully in his home at the New Jersey Firemen's Home in Boonton on Jan. 20, 2018. Born in Cincinnati, raised in Philadelphia, he also resided in Maywood, Rochelle Park, and Manchester, N.J. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Dotty, and his devoted son, Gary. Devoted father of Denise Mechan and her husband Tom. Cherished grandfather of Christopher and his wife Yahira, and Douglas and his wife Jennifer. Cherished great-grandfather of Hannah, Avery, Bryan and Matthew. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He served in the Navy during World War II as a fire controlman on USS Prometheus in the Pacific Theater. He was a volunteer firefighter in Maywood for over 20 years. During that time, he served as department chief (Undine Hose Company) and chaplain. He was a salesman all his life, but most recently worked for Glass Gardens Shop Rite Liquor store in Paramus and Rochelle Park as manager and for Ridgeway Liquors in Manchester.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 33 Woodland Road, Bayville, NJ 08721. Please arrive at 9 a.m. for the 9:30 a.m. Mass. Mastapeter Funeral Home in Bayville, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Jersey Firemen's Home, 565 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005 would be greatly appreciated.
