Robert Moff

Robert Moff

Robert (Bob) Allan Moff, 74, of Thomasboro passed away at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, surrounded by loving family members.

Robert was born in Alliance, Ohio, to Robert and Dorothy (Garrison) Moff. At the ripe age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. When he was just 21 and stationed at Chanute in Rantoul, he first laid eyes on his wife of 53 years, Sandra Moff. Just two months later, they married and went on to create a wonderful family together.

After serving in Vietnam, Bob first became a carpenter (a trade he passed on to his grandchildren), but later served as a prison guard, a firefighter for the city of Champaign, a fire instructor at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and Parkland College, and quartermaster at VFW Post 630. He was a devoted Christian and spent time as a deacon and elder in different churches in the area. He was a member of American Legion Post 71 in Urbana.

Once Bob retired from his position as captain of the Champaign fire department, he loved to spend time with his family. He also enjoyed taking trips to Hollywood Casino to play the slot machines.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; siblings, Dorothy, Jim (Barb) and Larry (Marjorie); daughters, Melinda and Deborah (Steve); grandchildren, Stephanie (John), Cassie, Ryan (Ally) and Megan; and great-grandchildren, Chase, Carly, Cason and Bennett.

His siblings, Richard, Mary Jo and Donnie; and grandson, Matt, have welcomed him at heaven's gates.

He was kind to all and will be missed by many. May he rest in peace.
