Manuel Rivera Silva

Manuel R. Silva, 97, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, in Dallas. He was born on May 28, 1923, to Hilaria Silva and Santiago Silva in Burlington, Texas. He grew up in Dallas. After serving in the 8th Air Force, European Theater, during World War II, he came home and met his future wife Albina Samaniego. They married in 1947. Manuel was Fleet Southwest Regional Manager for Sunshine Biscuit, and also worked for International Harvester and General Motors as a journeymen diesel mechanic.

Manuel was a loving husband and father. He valued spending quality time with his wife and family. He and Albina enjoyed all types of dancing until they were in their 80s. They never met a stray animal they did not keep. He enjoyed traveling, barbecuing and dominos and was a member of the Pan American Golf Association. Manuel was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and supported the team through both wins and losses. He and Albina were season ticket holders at Cowboys Stadium. Manuel was deeply devoted to his faith. He attended Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and The American Legion (Post 275).

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Albina Silva; daughters, Patricia (Tim) Summers; Elizabeth Silva (Bill Payne); Margaret Silva (David Carlson); and son, Manuel “Poppy” Silva. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Esther Silva.

Burial will take place at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
