Lee E. Mickels Sr.

Lee Edward Mickels Sr. was born Jan. 5, 1949, to Lester Bud Mickels and Julia Randle-Mickels. He attended Dallas ISD schools, graduating as a proud Mustang from Franklin D. Roosevelt in the Class of 1967.
He met his high school sweetheart and wife-to-be, Janice L. Winston, in April 1966. After graduating from high school in 1967, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968. He would go on to serve honorably for 21 years before retiring in April 1989.
He married Janice on Jan. 31, 1970. To their union, two children were born, Lee Edward Mickels Jr. on Sept. 22, 1971, and Kristin Dawn Mickels on Feb. 2, 1976. As a family, they were stationed in Okinawa, Japan; Sembach AB, Germany; and Aviano AB, Italy, always making lifelong friends. When in the United States, they were stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ; Randolph AFB, Universal City, TX; Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, TX; and Hanscom AFB, Bedford, MA. Again, always making lifelong friends. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Lee went to work for the U.S. Postal Service at the Main Post Office in Fort Worth, where he would retire after 20 years on April 30, 2010.
Lee was predeceased by his parents, Lester B. and Julia Mickels. He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Janice Winston-Mickels; son Lee E. Mickels Jr. of Grand Prairie, TX, daughter Kristin D. Mickels-Fontenot and grandson Demarko D. “Bubba” Fontenot II of Bedford, TX; sister Rosie Mickels-Johnson of Lancaster, TX; brother Walter E. Mickels and wife Sharon of Frisco, TX; brother Fred W. Mickels of Los Angeles; aunts WillaRean Edwards of Dallas and JoAnn Parson and husband Weab of Lancaster; sister-in-law Dorothy Winston-Jones of Dallas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
