Gerald (Jerry) C. Bellor

Jerry was a Korean War veteran who enlisted in the Navy out of Detroit in 1954. He completed boot camp at Great Lake, Ill. He was assigned to USS Bennington CVA-20, completing a trip around South America from Norfolk, Va., to San Diego, the new base for the carrier. He became a quartermaster and received the rank of QM3. He also spent time at Pearl Harbor Naval Base before being transferred to the active reserves in Detroit in 1958. He completed his enlisted and was honorably discharged from the active reserves in 1966.
Jerry married in 1961 and raised a family of two children. His son Jerry, following in his footsteps, joined the Navy in 1983 assigned to USS Cook FF-1083 in San Diego as a machinist mate second class. Gerald retired from his occupation as a millwright in 1994 and moved to Florida with his bride, where they lived until 2016 when Gerald was diagnosed with dementia. Gerald and his wife returned home to Michigan, where he passed away Nov. 30, 2023, with his family by his side. He was a past member of Post 186 in Brooksville, Fla.
