Tango Alpha Lima welcomes Pin-Ups for Vets founder

The American Legion’s Tango Alpha Lima podcast this week welcomes Gina Elise, the founder of Pin-Ups for Vets.

In 2006, Elise started seeing news stories about the plight of older veterans who rarely, if ever, receive visitors and younger veterans coping with severe injuries during their deployment in Iraq. As a granddaughter of an Army veteran who served in World War II, Elise was inspired to help.

And thus, Pin-Ups for Vets was hatched.

“I felt so strongly that I wanted to give back,” she says on the podcast. “As people know during World War II, they used to paint these beautiful women on the sides of aircraft to boost morale of troops and remind them of back home. I thought I would take that beautiful art form and create a fundraising calendar that we could use to support the veteran community today.”

She joined the Tango Alpha Lima podcast to discuss Pin-Ups for Vets, the challenges of producing a calendar during the pandemic and more. Download and listen to the podcast, or watch the YouTube version, at legion.org/tangoalphalima.

Don’t forget to rate and review the podcast on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher or other platform-hosting sites. That helps others with an interest in military topics, veterans issues and patriotism find Tango Alpha Lima.
