Let’s celebrate our achievements now and in Charlotte at the SAL National Convention

Greetings, Sons of The American Legion,

We’re just a little over a month before we meet in Charlotte, N.C., for the 51st National Convention of the Sons of The American Legion. I look forward to seeing so many of you in Charlotte and celebrating the SAL and the entire Legion Family together.

In the meantime, I wanted to use this month’s message to offer congratulations to those Detachments which have gone above and beyond.

July 1 was the target date for Consolidated Squadron Reports (CSR). I want to thank the Detachment of Vermont, which achieved 100 percent CSR submission! That’s a terrific achievement; thank you all for your hard work.

I’d also like to acknowledge the 13 Detachments that—as of July 13—had achieved or surpassed the 105 percent membership target ahead of the July 26 target date: Hawaii, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Philippines, West Virginia, Georgia, Oregon, Nevada, Alaska, Michigan, Colorado, Arizona and Florida. Several others are very close to hitting the mark.

As of July 13, our overall membership stands at 373,628 — that’s 101.59 percent of our membership goal for the year. Again, that’s a credit to the concerted efforts at the squadron and detachment levels to bring in new SAL members as well as encouraging existing or lapsed members to renew their membership. Keep it up!

Be the One!

With passion and purpose.

SAL National Commander Christopher Carlton
