Christian concert set for World Series

Contemporary Christian music artist MercyMe is making a tour stop in Shelby, N.C., on Aug. 12 to help launch The American Legion Baseball World Series (ALWS) and to honor veterans and servicemembers.

MercyMe, a Grammy-nominated and American Music Award winner, has sold more than six million CDs and DVDs, received eight Gospel Music Association Dove Awards and achieved 13 consecutive top five singles on the Billboard Christian Songs chart. The band’s albums have also attained either Gold or Platinum status.

In 2009, the band released a song titled "Finally Home" to honor America’s servicemembers, and have been actively supporting military members and their families ever since. And according to Eddie Holbrook, the ALWS co-chairman, MercyMe very much wanted to be a part of the excitement and military support surrounding the upcoming tournament that they are traveling nearly 700 miles to Shelby after performing the night before in South Bend, Ind.
