Career fair, employment events set for national convention

The American Legion's upcoming national convention in Baltimore will specifically cater to veterans and servicemembers who are looking for employment or interested in going into business for themselves.

As part of the organization's 97th National Convention in Baltimore, the Legion's Veterans Employment & Education Division will host a Hiring Our Heroes Transition and Benefits Career Fair on Sept. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hilton Baltimore's Key Ballroom. The career fair - which welcomes veterans, servicemembers and their families - will be preceded by an Employment Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a Reboots to Business Entrepreneurship Course, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Both of those events will also be held in the Baltimore Hilton's Key Ballroom.

Cosponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the career fair will welcome employers from the public and private sectors. And the morning's employment workshop will provide interview advice, one-on-one assistance with résumé writing and editing, and other general job-search tips to attendees.

The two-day "Reboots" entrepreneurship course will feature successful veteran entrepreneurs, business owners and subject-matter experts who can offer advice and hands-on assistance to veterans and servicemembers who are interested in hanging a shingle for themselves.

All events are free of charge and open to veterans, servicemembers and their families. Pre-registration is not necessary, but is encouraged via the U.S. Chamber's official registration page. Attendees should come in business attire and prepare to network and even interview on the spot.
