'Fast Track' tool translates military skills into civilian careers

USAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have released a new online tool designed to help veterans and servicemembers select a career that best suits them based on their service-learned skills and occupations.

As part of the U.S. Chamber's Hiring Our Heroes initiative, the "FastTrack for Heroes" online resource is designed to help veterans and servicemembers capitalize on their military training in joining the civilian workforce. FastTrack asks its users to first select an industry or career field that interests them, and then provides a list of careers in each field including relevant salary information, education and training requirements, and additional information about each career.

FastTrack also provides a comprehensive, nationwide listing of job openings for each career. Users can apply directly from the FastTrack website, which currently lists almost 4 million job openings in fields such as trucking, entertainment and media, manufacturing, insurance, oil and gas, and financial services. Veteran friendly employers provide the job listings.

The American Legion is an active supporter of the Hiring Our Heroes initiative. In conjunction with the U.S. Chamber, the Legion helps host veterans career fairs throughout the nation, often providing support from Legionnaires and offering Legion posts as venues for the career fairs.
