Legionnaire wins Cab Driver of Year Award

Robert Karasinski of American Legion Post 19 in Somerville, Mass., recently received a Cab Driver of the Year Award from the city of Cambridge, Mass. He was nominated for the honor by Christina Fadala, who was disabled eight years ago in a hit-and-run accident.Since that time, Karasinski has been Fadala’s favorite cabbie. He carries the walker she uses down to the cab, puts it in the trunk, then helps her along as she walks with a cane down the stairs of her apartment. He’s been doing that for eight years.“We have a hard time getting cabdrivers out of their driver’s seats to assist someone with their walkers,” Michael Muehe head of the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities, told the Boston Globe.
