VAVS effort lands 39 volunteers in GA

A Department of Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services (VAVS) outreach effort during a recent Department of Georgia Legion College netted 39 new volunteers for the program.

Thirty-nine college attendees signed up to volunteer at Georgia's VA medical centers, its community-based outpatient clinics, vet centers and state veterans homes. Department of Georgia VAVS Chairman R.D. Martin will register the individuals who signed up.

Department of Georgia volunteers donated nearly 8,000 hours in 2008 at Augusta, Atlanta and Dublin-Carl Vinson VA medical centers. The department is unique in that volunteers from within Georgia, Florida and other nearby states may also be volunteers in other states.
