Public ceremonies were not held in 2020 or 2021 to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Cemetery Administration announced it will host its first public Memorial Day ceremonies since 2019. Veterans, their families and the public are invited to attend the in-person commemorations honoring the nation’s fallen servicemembers. The ceremonies will take place in national cemeteries across the country from May 28-30. NCA maintains 155 national cemeteries and 34 soldiers' lots and monument sites in 43 states and Puerto Rico.

"There is no more fitting place to reflect upon the service and sacrifice of America's veterans and service members than in a national cemetery," VA Secretary Denis McDonough said. "Here lie those who served, sacrificed and — in many cases — gave their lives for us and our country. We are forever in their debt."
