December Impact: Big legislative wins

The final month of 2022, and of the 117th congressional session, included victories for veterans pushed by The American Legion. Among the provisions of the Consolidated Appropriations Act for Fiscal 2023 were a national Buddy Check Week, VA care for all surviving World War II veterans and an expansion of Special Immigrant Visas for Afghan allies of U.S. Armed Forces during the war.

Meanwhile, the Legion’s National Emergency Fund was tapped for 59 grants in December to help victims of Hurricane Ian, the organization’s National Blood Donor Program hit a 15-year high in units collected, the Tango Alpha Lima podcast ended the year with a 30% increase in downloads, and posts help their communities celebrate the season across the country.
