Donation totals for this year’s American Legion Legacy Run Home have been tallied, and once again the Run surpassed the previous year’s donation total to The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund.
Between what was raised on the National Commander’s Ride – which started in New York on Aug. 21, traveled through Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan and then ended in Indianapolis Aug. 23 – and donations made in Indianapolis during and following The American Legion National Convention – a total of $722,774 was raised to fund college scholarships for the children of U.S. servicemembers killed on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001. An estimated 500 Legion Riders took part in this year’s ride at some point during its duration.
Six previous Legacy Runs have netted more than $2.6 million for the fund; with this year’s amount, well over $3.3 million has been raised through the annual ride.
