Steve Honigfort

SAL National Vice Commander, Central Region

Steve currently serves as a National Vice Commander representing the Central Region. He has proudly maintained 47 years of continuous membership in the Sons of The American Legion, dedicated to serving our nation’s veterans. A life member of Squadron 63 in Ottawa, Ohio, Steve’s eligibility stems from his late father, Robert E. Honigfort, a Korean War Veteran.

Family plays a central role in Steve’s Legion involvement. His wife, Brigitte, is an Auxiliary member at Post 63, and together they have six children (three sons and three daughters) along with one granddaughter and one grandson. His sons and grandson are all SAL members, while his stepdaughter, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and son-inlaw are proud members of The American Legion.

Within Squadron 63, Steve has remained active throughout his 47 years, holding every office (including Commander for five years) and has consistently served as an officer. He also held every office in District 1, serving as Commander from 1996-1997. At the Detachment of Ohio level, Steve has contributed as Chairman of several committees including Special Olympics, POW/MIA, Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, Americanism, and Public Relations. He has also served in numerous Detachment offices such as Assistant Adjutant, Adjutant, Chaplain, Second Vice, First Vice, and ultimately Commander (2011-2012). He continues to serve today as the Detachment PR Chairman. On the National level, Steve spent nine years on the Finance Committee and six years as Alternate NEC.

Outside of Legion service, Steve worked as a construction manager, overseeing the planning of more than 2 million square feet of commercial space and over 800 homes. He also serves as a volunteer Hunter Education Instructor, promoting safety and responsibility.

The American Legion Family holds a deeply personal place in Steve’s life. Inspired by his father’s legacy, he remains committed to preserving and strengthening the traditions of The American Legion and Sons of The American Legion for generations to come.
