Christopher Casey

SAL National Vice Commander, Midwest Region

Chris Casey currently serves as a National Vice Commander for the Sons of The American Legion, from the Midwest Region. A proud 13-year member of Benson Squadron #112 in Omaha, Nebraska, he is also the inaugural Commander of the Benson American Legion Riders Chapter #112. His eligibility for membership is through his grandfather, David L. Harvey, a United States Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War from 1953 to 1969. 

At the squadron and detachment levels, Chris has held numerous leadership positions. He presently serves as Adjutant and Legislative Committee Chairman for the Detachment of Nebraska and previously served as Detachment Commander from 2021 to 2023. On the national level, he has been an active contributor, serving on the Membership Training & Development Committee, the Membership & Squadron Activities Committee, and as Chairman of the Americanism Commission. 

A native of Omaha, Chris graduated from Omaha Northwest High School in 1996 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2006. He began his professional career as a special education teacher at his former high school before transitioning to Goodwill Industries, where he supported youth with disabilities in developing workforce readiness skills. He later joined the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services, rising to the role of supervisor in the Omaha Service Coordination office. Chris went on to help establish the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Office of Public Guardianship, where he served as an Associate Public Guardian for northeast Nebraska. For the past eight years, he has worked at the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging, where he coordinates the Meals on Wheels program and provides resources that support older adults in maintaining independent living. 

Chris and his wife, Cassie Casey, have been married for 17 years and reside in Blair, Nebraska, with their three children: Sean (14), Lillian (12), and Liam (10). Cassie also works in the human services field, providing direct care to individuals with disabilities in a local group home. The Casey family is deeply rooted in the American Legion Family, with both of Chris’s sons actively serving in the Detachment of Nebraska. Chris also volunteers as a coach for youth basketball and baseball in his community.
