Michael Pollitt

National Chaplain

Michael Pollitt was appointed national chaplain of The American Legion on Aug. 28, 2025, at the 106th National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

Pollitt is a retired Army chaplain with 20 years of service whose many military assignments included duty as a funeral chaplain at Arlington National Cemetery. He is also a retired chaplain with the Department of Veterans Affairs where he served as both the deputy director and national director of the VA Chaplain Service. Upon retirement, in 2014 he moved to Canaan, N.H.

He used the GI Bill to graduate from Providence College. He also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich. He regularly conducts memorial services and funerals for veterans and their families.

Pollitt is member of Post 22 in Lebanon, N.H., and has been the Department of New Hampshire chaplain for 10 years. He is married with two children and four grandchildren.
