2017 Legion Baseball registration now open

Registration for the 2017 American Legion Baseball season is available at www.baseball.legion.org.

More than 3,700 teams participated in the 2016 Legion Baseball season, which resulted in eight teams punching their tickets to Shelby, N.C., for the 90th American Legion World Series.

The 2017 season will feature a new group of regional tournament sites as teams vie for a trip to Shelby. Hosting the tournaments from Aug. 2-6 will be The American Legion Departments of Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Ohio, North Dakota, Montana and Colorado. The American Legion World Series will take place Aug. 10-15 with games broadcast on ESPN3 and ESPNU.

Also new for 2017 is a pitch count rule aimed at increasing arm safety for pitchers. This is a switch from pitchers being limited by innings pitched, as pitch counts have been found to be a better way to track usage.
