ALWS Game 4: Maryland closes first day with 6-1 win over Mississippi

Ridge, Md., Post 255 made the most of its first American Legion World Series appearance on Thursday.

Ridge closed the first day of the 2021 ALWS with a 6-1 win over Tupelo, Miss.

Right-hander Ethan Ledig threw a three-hitter with three strikeouts and Ridge broke open a close game with a four-run fourth inning rally.

Shawn Cameron had RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings to lead a six-hit offense for Ridge (26-2).

Ridge also had the first home run of the 2021 ALWS in the bottom of the first inning when Demitri Jamison hit a 3-2 pitch over the left field fence to tie the score at 1.

Ridge took the lead for good on Cameron's first RBI single in the fourth and tacked on three more runs on Chase O'Dell's RBI single, Cole Carlton's RBI double and Ledig's RBI groundout.

Cameron drove in Ridge's sixth run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single.

Tupelo (29-4) got hits from Khi Holiday, Jackson McCoy, Stone Collier and Noah Foster.

Cade Davis threw a six-hitter with seven strikeouts for Post 49.

Ridge's Demitri Jackson hit a 3-2 pitch for the first home run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Ridge took the lead for good in the fourth with four runs on four hits and one walk; Shawn Cameron and Chase O'Dell had RBI singles, Cole Carlton a RBI double and Ethan Ledig a RBI groundout.

Cameron's fifth-inning RBI single accounted for the game's final run.

Top players: Ridge starter and winner Ethan Ledig yielded three hits and struck out four in innings with Tyler Quade getting the last three outs.

Demetri Johnson and Shawn Cameron had two hits apiece for Ridge, which had six hits overall. Stone Collier had one of Tupelo's four hits and drove in Post 49's only run.

What's next: Tupelo plays Fargo, N.D., on Friday at 4 p.m. and Ridge, Md., plays Honolulu, Hawaii, on Friday at 7 p.m.
