Seehafer to headline special Be the One event in San Diego

American Legion National Commander Daniel J. Seehafer will discuss Be the One, the organization’s mission to reduce the number of veterans who die by suicide, during a three-day special event this weekend in San Diego.

Seehafer’s presentation will kick off the second day, Saturday, Dec. 16, of Be the One Weekend, held at American Legion Post 731. After Seehafer concludes, there will be two panel discussions about Be the One and veterans suicide.

"I am encouraged by how American Legion Family members are rallying around our primary mission — reducing the number of veterans we lose to suicide," Seehafer said. "We need to have these conversations at every post, every coffee shop and every opportunity that presents itself. Engaging the whole community in this effort will go a long way in reducing the stigma of mental health treatment. And what District 22 in San Diego is doing is a tremendous way to engage their community, empower everyone to make a difference and — the most important part — save the lives of veterans."

The weekend summit will also include American Legion service officers providing free VA claims assistance, a membership outreach program, an indoor drone demonstration, a veterans arts show and Santa Claus visiting with active-duty military families.
