An award-winning documentary about The American Legion Texas Boys State program is coming to selected theaters on July 31 and Apple TV+ on Aug. 14.
“Boys State” follows four delegates at the 2018 Texas Boys State program. The film, directed and produced by Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in January. Apple and A24 bought the rights to the documentary for a reported $12 million.
Moss told the Houston Chronicle that he hoped the film “is a way to engage with our country and our politics and our democracy.”
“Young people have to participate and I think that is hopefully the message of the movie and the these boys are ambassadors of that message,” he told the newspaper.
