Career Center newsletter attracts job-seekers

Veterans, servicemembers and their families are encouraged to sign up for The American Legion’s Veterans Career Center Newsletter - an electronic mailing that offers a comprehensive listing of military job fairs around the country, information on career resources, and updates on legislation that affects veterans employment or education benefits. More than 2,000 subscribers have already signed up for the newsletter.

The newsletter is emailed on a regular basis and is a valuable resource to anyone who wants to stay updated on the veterans employment issue. Not only does it offer beneficial information to job seekers, but it also gives updates on the Legion’s legislative efforts on Capitol Hill.

The job fair calendar portion of the newsletter is populated by job fairs from Military.com, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and RecruitMilitary. The Legion actively works with all three organizations to plan and coordinate the fairs, often using Legion posts as sites for the events. Representatives from the Legion usually are present at the career fairs, networking with attendees and providing access to resources for job-seekers.

A wide swath of companies and organizations from the private and public sectors maintain booths at the fairs. In the past, the Departments of Defense and Labor, the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency have attended the event. Companies like Microsoft, DeVry College and Amazon.com have also been present. Attendees are encouraged to dress in business attire and bring copies of their résumés.

The newsletter’s subscriber base has doubled since its first mailing earlier this year. To receive it, sign up here.
