Job-seekers invited to Washington Conference

Veterans and active-duty military who are looking for jobs are invited to attend The American Legion’s career fair during the organization’s annual Washington Conference. The free hiring event, co-sponsored by RecruitMilitary, will bring around 50 employers to the Washington Hilton Hotel on Feb. 21 to accept résumés from, network with and even interview veteran job-seekers on the spot.

Employers that are registered to attend hail from the public and private sectors and come from a variety of industries, including the financial and technical fields, government employers, nonprofit organizations and other entities. The list currently includes regional and national employers such as PNC Bank, Lowe’s, the D.C. Department of Corrections, the United States Patent and Trademark Office and many more.

This year’s Washington Conference career fair will follow up on the success of last year’s festivities. The Legion’s 2012 Washington Conference welcomed around 700 attendees to its career fair, producing jobs for a number of them and offering valuable networking opportunities. Many of the same employers that attended last year’s event will be in attendance again this year.

Additionally, the Legion will man its own booth and exhibit at the event. Human resources representatives from the organization will be on hand accepting résumés for open positions and will also provide employment resources that the organization produces.

Representatives from RecruitMilitary, the Legion’s longtime partner in hosting career fairs, will also be present. As the event nears, RecruitMilitary and the Legion expect the list of employers to grow. The two organizations co-hosted 62 career fairs throughout the country in 2012.

As always, the event is free. Current servicemembers and military spouses are also welcome. Attendees should wear business attire and register online before attending. Pre-registration is not required but is encouraged to expedite the check-in process.
