Business conference set for Milwaukee

Veteran entrepreneurs and business-minded veterans will have a special place at the Legion's upcoming National Convention. The American Legion's Economic Division invites veterans and their business associates to attend the organization's Annual Business Conference, which takes place Aug. 31-Sept. 1 in Milwaukee - the site of the Legion's 92nd National Convention. The conference will convene at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is free.

Attendees will work directly with congressional staff members in charge of writing legislation that affects veterans and their businesses. Business opportunities are plentiful at the conference as well, as federal agencies and prime contractors will be on hand looking for veteran-owned business to partner with and subcontract to. Attendees will also get the chance to network with other veteran entrepreneurs and members of The American Legion's Business Task Force.

From Capitol Hill, legislative leaders from the Senate and House Small Business Committees and the Committee on Veterans Affairs will give legal briefings on pending legislation that will affect veteran businesses. Representatives from two federal entities - VA's Center for Veteran Enterprise and the General Services Administration - will be on hand as well to present their plans to work with veteran businesses in the future.

The Legion's Business Task Force will also be in attendance, serving as a consultation panel for attendees. Members Chelie Lacrosse, Wes Stith, Tim Foreman, Bill Elmore, Teresa Lewis and Billy Jenkins will give presentations on their areas of expertise, which include bonding strategies, policy analysis, federal procurement, proposal writing and federal contracting.
