September impact: Shutdown averted, champion crowned

Just hours before an American Legion-opposed U.S. government shutdown would have adversely affected members of the U.S. Armed Forces, VA and other federal services, Congress voted to give it at least another 45 days. The Sept. 30 measure came after American Legion National Commander Daniel Seehafer called on elected officials to find a solution that won’t disrupt services for veterans or national security.

Meanwhile, Alex Palou finished a dominant season behind the wheel of The American Legion’s Be the One car, taking the NTT INDYCAR Series championship Sept. 10.

Also in September, the Legion remembered America’s POW/MIAs and the tragic terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

It was a big month for scholarships, Flag Code inquiries and Operation Comfort Warriors, while The American Legion’s Tango Alpha Lima podcast shattered its single-month record for audio downloads.
