Neal McCoy a big part of 99th National Convention

Neal McCoy, a country music mainstay who has sold more than six million records, will emcee the opening of the 99th American Legion National Convention in Reno, Nev., on Aug. 22, and perform at the National Commander’s Banquet that evening.

The Texas native has three platinum albums and five country No. 1 singles to his credit, and has performed in 15 USO shows around the world. Last year, McCoy began reciting the Pledge of Allegiance every morning on Facebook Live; his page has racked up tens of millions of views.

The opening of the convention typically features speeches by the last year's Legion youth champions; greetings from political figures and other representatives; and the presentation of the Spirit of Service Awards to exceptional volunteers from each of the service branches.

Tickets for the National Commander’s Banquet are $47; those interested in attending should contact their department adjutants.
